Diversity in Waitaki

20.11.2023

Diversity in Waitaki was a community project that brought people from different countries together to collaborate on a single project.

This art project has been a dream of mine ever since I became a migrant in Waitaki.

Through art, we celebrated the beautiful tapestry of cultures right here in Waitaki, using up-cycled materials like cardboard sheets from packaging and leftover paints from my mural paintings to create something truly remarkable. What made it even more special was that this project aligned perfectly with the year's Oamaru Heritage Celebrations theme - "Migrants' Stories."

About 20 people participated, and we ended up with approximately 12 painted panels, which were displayed during the Oamaru Heritage Celebrations.

This collaboration with Waitaki Multicultural, supported by the Waitaki District Creative Communities Scheme and the generous offer of space by Harbour Street Collective Cafe, made the project possible.
